Japanese Flower Arrangements
The Japanese Ikebana styles of Aratame (modern) and Sogetsu (regular and unusual materials) flower artistry will be presented in this class, focusing on simple yet beautiful flower arrangements. Most materials, flowers and greens will be provided in this class. Students should bring their clippers and any favorite flowers and foliage from their gardens to this course. They should also bring two vases (unusual shapes or Japanese styles if they have any). Students will view examples of Aratame and Sogetsu flower arrangements, and then they will observe a demonstration in these styles. Students will create their own arrangements, and then engage in a friendly art critique by classmates and the instructor. At the end of this class students will photograph their flower arrangements.
